I AM a Woman Inspiring the Next Generation

WINGS Teen Peer Mentor Program

Junior League of the Quad Cities has created a pilot mentor program at West High School in Davenport with the purpose to help young women create a positive perception of themselves. Throughout the school year there will be various projects and activities that will help them recognize, pursue and achieve their full potential as young women. Participating high school students will eventually become mentors to middle school women, to help them work together to battle negative self-image and improve the perception of young women.

WINGS Volunteer

JLQC members and the young women of our WINGs Program at Davenport West High School volunteered to provide helping hands on Friday, March 4, 2016 and Saturday March 5, 2016 for the QC Closet2Closet.

QC Closet2Closet provides gently worn and new clothing and accessories to teenage children who live in foster care or who are homeless. Wardrobe assistance is provided via quarterly shopping events, when children enrolled in the program may shop for free.  The average United States foster child moves three times per year. When they move, they often lose their belongings, and foster families receive very little financial support to purchase clothing, accessories, and hygiene items. That is where Closet2Closet comes in!

Junior League of the Quad Cities and the young women of WINGs are sincerely grateful to have helped served our local foster care community through both a hands-on and a $1,000 financial contribution.

WINGS Conference

Hosted by the WINGs (Women Inspiring the Next Generation) women of Davenport West High School and the Junior League of the Quad Cities, the I AM Conference educated young women (grades 5th to 12th) on worthwhile topics facing women and girls today, including peer pressure, body image, and women in the media. The conference included keynote speakers from leading women in the Quad Cities and break-out sessions to discuss the issues they face most in their daily lives.  Through its I AM Initiative, the Junior League of the Quad Cities is committed to improving the perception and self-image of women through leadership and empowerment to inspire change!
